At National Plastics & Rubber, we specialise in manufacturing high-quality Fire Resistant Anti-Static (FRAS) products tailored for underground mining operations. Our FRAS-certified materials are essential for ensuring safety, minimising occupational hazards, and preventing underground ignition events.
Why FRAS Matters
FRAS materials play a critical role in mitigating risks in underground mining environments. They provide two key safety features:
- Fire Resistance: FRAS products prevent flames from sustaining or spreading, ensuring that equipment and materials do not continue to burn once ignited.
- Anti-Static Properties: These materials reduce the risk of electric shock and prevent the ignition of flammable gases, significantly lowering the chance of catastrophic events.
By reducing the electrical resistance of mining equipment, FRAS products help maintain a safer environment for your team.
Our FRAS Solutions
Our FRAS-certified polyurethane is designed for demanding applications in underground mines, including coal mining and other operations requiring fire-resistant, anti-static materials. We manufacture a wide range of products, such as:
- Hungry Boards
- Machine Bumpers
- Cast Sheets
With a variety of compounds, colors, and customisable options, we work closely with our clients to deliver tailored solutions that meet their specific requirements.
Compliance with FRAS Standards
Meeting regulatory standards is critical to ensuring the safety of your mining operations. FRAS materials must adhere to strict certification requirements to maintain compliance and reduce risks for employees.
Queensland FRAS Requirements
The Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation (Qld) mandates the use of certified FRAS products in specific applications, including:
- Conveyor belts
- Drum lagging
- Ventilation ducting
- Brattice and separation stoppings in escapeways
Site senior executives are responsible for incorporating FRAS-certified materials in their risk assessments and ensuring compliance with these requirements. Following testing by the Queensland Mines Inspectorate, a safety alert was issued in September 2020 to emphasise the importance of FRAS compliance.
New South Wales FRAS Requirements
The NSW Resources Regulator issued a similar safety alert in October 2020, outlining FRAS obligations for underground mining operations in New South Wales.
Since obtaining our FRAS certification in 2014, we’ve consistently maintained compliance with safety standards, ensuring our products meet the rigorous demands of underground mining applications.
Whether you need custom-molded components or standard FRAS products, our team can develop the right solution for your needs.
